Why Add Page Numbers to a PDF?
Page numbers make a long document easy to use. Readers can find a section from the contents, a teacher can say "see page 12", and printed pages are simple to put back in order if they fall on the floor. Reports, theses, contracts, manuals and scanned books all read better with numbers.
How to Add Page Numbers to a PDF
- Press Choose a PDF file and pick your document.
- Choose the position: bottom center, bottom right, top left and so on.
- Choose the style, for example 1, Page 1 or Page 1 of 10.
- Change the start number or the font size if you need to. Tick the box if the first page is a cover and should stay clean.
- Press Add page numbers and download. Your file is saved as the original name followed by -numbered.
What the Tool Does
- Puts a number on every page, or on every page except the first.
- Offers six positions and five number styles.
- Lets you start from any number, which helps when you are joining parts of a longer document.
- Handles pages that are turned sideways, so the numbers still sit at the edge you chose.
- Saves a new file and leaves your original untouched.
Good to Know
- When you leave the first page without a number, page 2 still shows the start number plus one. With the default start of 1, page 2 shows 2.
- The numbers are added on top of the page. They cannot be removed with this tool afterwards, so keep your original file.
- Password protected PDFs cannot be opened by the tool. Remove the password in your PDF viewer first.
- Each file can be up to 100 MB.
