What an XML Sitemap Actually Does
An XML sitemap is a simple file that lists a site’s pages so search engines can discover and crawl them more efficiently. It’s especially useful for larger sites, brand-new pages that don’t have many internal links pointing to them yet, or sites with a complicated structure that’s hard to crawl by just following links. It’s worth being clear about what it isn’t: a sitemap is a hint to search engines about what exists, not a guarantee that every page gets indexed.

- Regenerate and resubmit it whenever your page list changes meaningfully, especially after adding or removing entire sections of a site.
A Common Misunderstanding
A sitemap doesn’t fix pages that are blocked by robots.txt, marked noindex, or otherwise unreachable through normal navigation. It’s a discovery aid layered on top of a site that’s already structured reasonably well — not a substitute for fixing structural or crawlability problems.
