Summarize long text into key points instantly, free and online. A simple tool to save time reading articles, reports, and more.
About the Text Summarizer
Long articles, reports and emails take time to read. This text summarizer condenses your text into its most important sentences, so you can grasp the main idea quickly and decide whether the full text deserves your attention. Paste the text, choose how many sentences you want in the summary and click Summarize Text.
How to use the Text Summarizer
- Paste the article, report or notes into the box.
- Choose the summary length in sentences. The default is 3.
- Click Summarize Text.
- Read the summary and copy it with the Copy Summary button.
How the summarizer works
The tool uses extractive summarization, a classic method that does not rely on a large language model. It counts how often meaningful words appear across your text, scores each sentence by the words it contains, and picks the highest-scoring sentences. The chosen sentences keep their original order and wording. Because the work happens in your browser, the summary appears instantly and your text never leaves your device.
When extractive summaries work best
- News articles, reports and blog posts with a clear structure
- Long emails and meeting notes where the key points are repeated
- Study material you want to skim before reading in full
- Drafting short descriptions for newsletters or social posts, which you then rewrite in your own words
Limitations to keep in mind
Since the summary is built from sentences copied out of the original, it can feel a little disjointed compared with a summary written by a person or by an advanced AI model, and a sentence may refer to something that was explained in a sentence that was left out. Details, numbers and nuance can disappear, so always check the original for anything important such as legal, medical or financial content. If you reuse the text, remember the sentences are not yours, so credit the source or rewrite them.
Tips for better summaries
- Use text with at least several paragraphs. Very short texts do not give the tool enough to work with.
- Remove menus, ads and repeated headers before pasting.
- Try a few lengths. A 3-sentence summary gives the gist and 5 to 7 sentences keeps more detail.
- Check the length of the original with the Word Counter to decide how short the summary should be.
Frequently asked questions
Is a summary a replacement for the full text?
No. It helps you get the gist, but details and nuance may be left out.
Does it use AI?
It uses a classic word-frequency algorithm rather than a large language model, so it runs instantly in your browser.
How long should the original text be?
It works best on texts of several paragraphs or more.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Summarization happens locally in your browser.
Does it work with Arabic?
The scoring is designed around English text, so results for other languages may be less reliable.
