Guides: Binary Converter ExplainedHow to Convert Binary to TextWhat Binary in Text Means
About the Binary to Text Converter
Binary code is how computers store everything, but strings of zeros and ones are almost impossible to read by eye. This binary to text converter decodes binary into readable words and also converts text into binary. Choose a direction, paste your content and press Convert.
How to use the converter
- Choose Binary to Text or Text to Binary.
- Paste your binary code or type your text. Group binary digits in sets of eight.
- Press Convert.
- Copy the result with the Copy Result button.
How binary becomes text
Each character is stored as one byte, which is eight bits. The converter reads each group of eight digits, converts it to a decimal number and then looks up the matching ASCII character. For example, 01001000 is 64 + 8 = 72, and 72 is the letter H. The next group, 01101001, is 64 + 32 + 8 + 1 = 105, which is the letter i. Together they spell Hi.
| Character | Decimal | Binary |
|---|---|---|
| A | 65 | 01000001 |
| B | 66 | 01000010 |
| a | 97 | 01100001 |
| 0 | 48 | 00110000 |
| Space | 32 | 00100000 |
The word Hello in binary is 01001000 01100101 01101100 01101100 01101111.
Why binary text sometimes does not convert
- The groups are not eight digits long. Every character needs exactly eight bits, including leading zeros.
- There are stray characters. Only 0 and 1 are valid, so remove letters and punctuation.
- The binary was created in a different encoding. This tool handles standard ASCII characters, so characters outside the basic English alphabet, numbers and common symbols may not round-trip perfectly.
Common uses
- Decode binary messages, puzzles and escape-room clues
- Learn how text is represented inside computers
- Check homework on binary and ASCII
- Translate binary found in games and coding challenges

Frequently asked questions
Why are there 8 digits in each group?
Each character is stored as one byte, and a byte is 8 bits. For example, 01001000 stands for H.
Can I paste binary without spaces?
Yes. The tool accepts one continuous string of digits, but spaces or line breaks between bytes make the result easier to check.
What if my binary does not convert?
Make sure each character is exactly 8 digits and that the input contains only 0 and 1.
Can I convert text to binary too?
Yes. Switch the direction to Text to Binary, type your text and press Convert.
Is my text uploaded?
No. All conversion happens in your browser.
