Title Length Checker

Check whether your page title fits Google’s search result display before you publish, with a live SERP preview.

How the Title Length Checker Works

Google does not cut off titles based on a fixed number of characters, it cuts them off based on pixel width, because letters like “i” and “l” take up far less space than “W” or “M”. A 60-character title full of narrow letters might display fully, while a 50-character title full of wide letters gets truncated.

How this tool checks your title

As you type, the tool measures your title using the same font metrics Google’s search results use, and compares it against the ~600px cut-off point. It also shows a live preview of how your title and URL will look in an actual Google search result.

Tips for a safer title length

  • Aim for 50-60 characters as a safe general rule, but always check the pixel bar too.
  • Front-load your most important keyword in case the end gets cut off.
  • Avoid ALL CAPS, capital letters are wider and use up your pixel budget faster.
  • Re-check your title any time you edit it, since small changes can push it over the limit.
