What Is a Random Name Picker?
A random name picker chooses one or more names from a list without any bias. Teachers use it to call on students, hosts use it to choose a giveaway winner, and teams use it to decide who goes first or who does a task. Because a computer makes the choice, nobody can say it was unfair.
How to Pick a Random Name
- Type or paste your names into the box, with one name on each line.
- Choose how many names to pick. For a single winner, leave it at 1.
- Press Pick a random name. After a short drawing animation, the winners appear. Use Copy winners to copy them.
Options Explained
Ignore duplicate names
When this is ticked, a name that appears twice in the list is counted once, so everyone has the same chance. Untick it if you want a name that you list twice to have a double chance.
Remove the picked names from the list
Tick this when you want to draw several times without picking the same person again, for example when you hand out prizes one by one.
Is It Really Random?
Yes. The choice uses the secure random number generator built into your browser, and every name in the list has an equal chance. The animation is only for show and does not change the result, which is chosen before the animation starts.
Limits to Know About
- The tool picks from the names you type. It cannot check giveaway entries on social media.
- If you ask for more winners than there are names, it shows a message and does not pick.
- Names are not saved. If you close the page, the list is cleared.
- For a drawing that must meet legal rules, such as a public lottery, follow the rules of your country and keep your own record.
