How to Use the Number to Words Converter

  1. Type or paste a number. Commas and spaces are ignored.
  2. Choose how to write it: plain words, or an amount of money with a currency.
  3. Choose American style, which leaves out “and”, or British style, which uses “and” as in one hundred and five.
  4. Choose small letters, sentence case, Title Case or capitals.
  5. Press Copy the words to put the text on your clipboard.

Examples

  • 1,250 becomes one thousand two hundred fifty.
  • 1,250 in British style becomes one thousand two hundred and fifty.
  • 3.14 becomes three point one four.

Why Write Numbers in Words?

Cheques, invoices, contracts and legal forms often ask for the amount in words as well as figures. Words are harder to change by mistake or on purpose, so they act as a double check on the digits. Writing numbers in words is also a common school exercise and a handy way to check spelling.
