What Is an Image Converter?
An image converter changes a picture from one file format to another. You might need it because a website only accepts JPG, because you want a PNG with sharp edges, or because WebP files load faster on your own site. This free image converter handles JPG, PNG and WebP, and it can read GIF, BMP and AVIF files too.
How to Convert an Image
- Press Choose images and select one or more pictures.
- Pick the format you want: JPG, PNG or WebP. For JPG and WebP you can also set the quality.
- Press Convert images, then download each file or all of them together as a ZIP.
JPG, PNG or WebP: Which One?
JPG
JPG is the most compatible format and makes small files for photos. It does not support transparency, so transparent areas turn white.
PNG
PNG keeps every detail and supports transparency, which makes it a good choice for logos, screenshots and graphics with text. The files are usually larger than JPG.
WebP
WebP gives smaller files than JPG or PNG at similar quality and supports transparency. Almost all modern browsers can show it, but a few older apps and tools cannot open it.
Why Use a Browser Based Converter?
Many online converters upload your pictures to a server. Here the work happens on your own device, which is a good fit for personal photos and private documents. There is no watermark, no sign-up and no waiting for an upload.
Tips for Better Results
- Converting a JPG to PNG does not add detail. It only changes the container, and the file may get much bigger.
- Each time you save a JPG at lower quality, some detail is lost. Keep your original file and convert from it.
- For web pages, WebP at 80 to 90 percent quality is a good balance. You can also shrink files further with the image compressor.
- If you need to change the size of a picture, use the image resizer.
Limits to Know About
- You can add up to 50 images at a time, each up to 50 MB.
- Animated GIFs are converted using their first frame only.
- Photos and metadata such as camera details and location are not copied to the new file.
- Saving as WebP depends on your browser. If it cannot save WebP, the tool tells you to choose JPG or PNG.
- HEIC photos from some iPhones cannot be read by most desktop browsers. Safari can open them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this image converter free?
Yes. It is free to use, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The images are converted in your browser and are not sent to our servers.
Can I convert many images at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 images and download them all in one ZIP file.
Why did my transparent PNG get a white background?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. Choose PNG or WebP to keep the transparency.
Does converting reduce the quality?
PNG output keeps full quality. JPG and WebP use the quality slider you choose, and a higher value keeps more detail.
Can I convert PNG to JPG on my phone?
Yes, in a modern mobile browser. You can pick pictures straight from your gallery.
