Each click copies that emoji and also adds it to the box, so you can build a row of emoji and copy them together. How an emoji looks depends on your device.

What Is Emoji Copy and Paste?

Emoji copy and paste means picking an emoji from a list and pasting it where you need it, instead of hunting for it on a phone keyboard. It is useful on a laptop, where the emoji keyboard is hidden, and for people who want one emoji in a place that does not offer a picker, such as an email subject, a document title or a profile bio.

How to Copy and Paste an Emoji

  1. Type a word in the search box, or choose a group such as Smileys, Hearts or Animals.
  2. Click the emoji you want. It is copied to your clipboard and added to the emoji box.
  3. Go to your app and paste with Ctrl + V on Windows or Command + V on a Mac. On a phone, press and hold in the text field and choose Paste.

How to Type Emoji Without a Website

  • Windows 10 and 11: press the Windows key and the period key together to open the emoji panel.
  • Mac: press Control, Command and Space together.
  • iPhone and Android: switch to the emoji keyboard from the globe or smiley key on your keyboard.
  • Any device: copy from this page. It works the same in every browser.

Why Emoji Look Different on Each Device

Unicode gives every emoji a name and a number, but it does not draw the picture. Apple, Google, Samsung, Microsoft and others each design their own artwork. The same emoji can look friendlier on one phone and flatter on another. Very new emoji may show as an empty box on an older phone, because the device does not know them yet.

Popular Emoji Pages

Some emoji have their own page with the meaning, the Unicode number and the HTML code. See the fire emoji, the red heart emoji, the white heart emoji and the check mark emoji.

Tips for Using Emoji

  • Use one or two emoji, not a long row, in business messages. Too many can look careless.
  • Check the meaning before you send. The same emoji can be friendly in one group and sarcastic in another.
  • Remember screen readers. They read each emoji by name, so a long row is tiring to listen to.
  • Keep a plain-text version of important information. Do not hide a date, a price or a link inside an emoji.
