Why Broken Links Hurt SEO
A broken link sends visitors to a dead page, which drives them away and wastes any authority pointing at that page. Search engines that repeatedly hit dead ends on a site can crawl it less thoroughly over time, and internal broken links waste the very link equity a site is trying to build.
How This Scan Works
This tool reads the actual HTML of the page you enter, pulls out every link on it, and checks each one’s live HTTP response — a working link returns a normal success response, while a broken one comes back as a client or server error, or doesn’t respond at all. This is a real, live check of that one page, not a cached or estimated result.
Common Reasons Links Break
- A page got deleted or moved without a redirect left behind.
- A typo in the URL when the link was first added.
- An external site restructured or shut down entirely.
- A temporary outage on the linked server at the moment of the check — worth re-testing before assuming it’s permanently dead.
